Madison Mallards News Release
MADISON, WI - August 2, 2011. The Madison Mallards will hop on the team bus Tuesday and head to Witter Field in Wisconsin Rapids for the first game of a home-and-home series against the Rafters that is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
The Mallards will look to rebound from the last time they faced the Rafters, when they were swept in a three-game set in mid-July.
However, things are a little different this time from when the two teams last squared off. The Rafters, who went over .500 for the first time in team history this half at the Mallards' expense, have struggled as of late, going 2-8 in their last ten games. The Mallards, who were in the midst of their biggest struggle of the season when they last lost to Rapids, are winners of six in a row and eight of their last ten. They also sit a mere 1.5 games out of first place in the South Division.
With their season-high winning streak on the line, The Mallards will send Jonathon Crawford (Florida) out to the mound. Crawford is 2-1 this season with a 4.50 earned run average in nine appearances. He won is last start on July 27 in a 4-1 victory over Battle Creek. Crawford has not faced the Rafters this season, but will be going up against a team that is hitting .244 over the past seven days.
The Rafters have not announced a starter for the game.
Following Tuesday's contest, both teams will head to Madison to play for the final time this season. The game at the "Duck Pond" will start at 7:05 p.m.
