Green Bay Rockers News Release
Green Bay, WI. - With a runner on second base and nobody out in the ninth inning, Matthew Acosta (Sophomore, USC) drills a two-run walk-off blast to power the host Green Bay Bullfrogs (15-31) to an exciting 6-4 victory over the visiting Wisconsin Rapids Rafters (20-25) at Joannes Stadium Friday evening. Green Bay sweeps the home-and-home series and improves to 3-3 against the Rafters this season.
Wisconsin Rapids struck first immediately with a lead-off home run by Brody Wofford to give the Rafters an early 1-0 advantage. The Rafters added to their lead in the third inning on a RBI double from Jack-Thomas Wold to make it a 2-0 game.
The Bullfrogs bats came alive in the fourth, tallying a crucial four-spot in the inning to take a 4-2 advantage. Green Bay's scoring surge commenced with a RBI base-knock from Luke Robinson (Sophomore, Western Carolina) to cut the deficit in half at 2-1. Andre Antone (Freshman, UC Irvine) then delivered with a two-run single to put the Frogs in front 3-2. Brian Davis (Freshman, Gordon State College) scored on a wild pitch later in the frame to extend the lead to 4-2.
Both teams were held scoreless until the top of the ninth inning when the Rafters rallied back. With the bases loaded and two outs in the ninth, Ty Duvall blooped a two-run single into center field just out of the reach of a diving effort by Green Bay's Cooper Morrison (Sophomore, UC Davis) to knot the score at 4-4.
In the bottom of the ninth, Esteban Cardoza-Oquendo (Freshman, Navarro College) was hit by a pitch to lead-off the inning. Cardoza-Oquendo then advanced to second base on a balk, setting up for the spectacular finish. One batter later, Acosta blasted the Bullfrog's first walk-off home run of the summer over the right field wall to give Green Bay a two-run victory.
Robinson and Morrison topped the Green Bay offensive charts as both finished 2-for-4 at the plate. Alejandro Gonzalez (Freshman, Hillsborough CC) and Preston Pavlica (Junior, Grand Canyon Univ.) each went 1-for-4, while Blaise Maris (Sophomore, Florida Tech) contributed a 1-for-3 effort. Acosta was 1-for-4 with two RBIs on his walk-off homer.
Green Bay relief pitcher David Toth (Freshman, Hillsdale College) earned the win, improving to 1-3. Wisconsin Rapids reliever Hunter Robichaux took the loss, falling to 0-1.
The Green Bay Bullfrogs venture to Mequon tomorrow night, visiting the Lakeshore Chinooks for the opener of a home-and-home weekend series. First pitch is slated for a 6:35 p.m. start at Kapco Park.
