Green Bay Rockers News Release
Eau Claire struck early and often Wednesday night, and three big innings propelled the Express to an 18-3 victory over the Green Bay Bullfrogs.
Eau Claire got on the board first, as a sacrifice fly from Daniel Kihle (Wichita State) brought home Charlie White (Maryland) in the first inning. The Express scored another in the third inning on an RBI groundout from Sam Haggerty (New Mexico).
The Bullfrogs were able to bring home one in the bottom of the third inning. Jack Parenty (Stony Brook) came home to score on a single from Cabe Reiten (Gonzaga).
The Express took control and extended the lead to 10-1 with four runs in both the fourth and fifth inning. The Express batted around in both innings, with a majority of the damage being done by Matt Menard (Baylor), Tyler Herman (Indian Hills CC), Blake Schmit (Maryland) and Parker Zimmerman (Wichita State). Each of them reached base and came home to score in both the fourth and the fifth innings.
The Bullfrogs were able to tack on a run in the seventh on Parenty's first home run of the season, and another in the eighth on a Jimmy Coady (UW-Stevens Point) sacrifice fly.
The Express weren't finished offensively, as they scored eight more times in the eighth inning, leading eventually to an 18-3 victory. 12 batters saw the plate in the eight-run eighth for Eau Claire.
In the ninth for Green Bay, position player Bryant Burleson set down the Eau Claire side in order. He struck out one batter in the inning.
The loss went to Brian Trieglaff (TCU) who pitched 3.1 innings. Will Kenny (Iowa Central) earned the win for the Express. It was Trieglaff's first loss of the season.
