GREEN BAY - The Green Bay Bullfrogs capitalized on two seven-run innings as they pummeled the Wisconsin Woodchucks, 16-5.
After Woodchucks starter Jordan Jess put the Bullfrogs down in order in the first, Green Bay unleashed havoc in the second. With the assistance of five Jess walks, the Bullfrogs scored seven runs, the big hit coming on a two-out grand slam by Ryan McCauley.
The Woodchucks answered back with a big inning of their own in the top of the third. The first five batters of the inning reached, including a two-run double by Luke Moran that saw Gage Green get gunned down at the plate. Later in the inning, Andrew Montanari recorded his first hit as a Woodchuck, a bloop single to left the scored Mike Mierow and Moran and cut the Bullfrogs lead to two.
Both starters were chased early, as Jordan Jess exceeded the 35-pitch limit in the second. He pitched two innings, allowing seven runs on two hits and five walks. Robb Woodcock, the Green Bay starter, went two and two thirds innings, allowing five runs on three hits and five walks.
The scored stayed 7-5 until the fifth when the Bullfrogs scored a run off of "ËChucks reliever Chevas Numata. Numata, normally a first baseman, came on in relief of Jess, and held the Bullfrogs off of the board until a throwing error by Mike Mierow allowed a runner to score from third, making it an 8-5 game.
The Bullfrogs added a run of insurance in the bottom of the sixth as Joel Klock blasted a solo home run directly over the foul pole in right field, giving Green Bay a 9-5 lead.
The floodgates opened once again for the Bullfrogs in the eighth as they scored seven runs off of "ËChucks reliever Gage Green, making it a 16-5 game.
The Woodchucks will be back in action tomorrow night at Athletic Park to take on the La Crosse Loggers at 6:35.
