Green Bay Rockers News Release
Green Bay, Wis.- The Green Bay Bullfrogs are on the road in Wausau tonight at 7:05 p.m. to take on Wisconsin in the first of six meetings with the Woodchucks this month.
The two teams will also play a game in Green Bay tomorrow, followed by another two-game series on June 15-16 and a doubleheader on June 30.
The Bullfrogs picked up a 5-2 win last night in Madison thanks to a stellar performance from starting pitcher Luke Crabb. Crabb had a no-hitter going through six innings before Scott Tyler opened up the seventh with a single passed shortstop Jack Strunc.
Crabb earned the win with six innings pitched, allowed two hits, one earned run, three walks and struck out two.
The Bullfrogs plated a pair of runs in the top of the second inning with a two-out rally. Caleb Ratzman singled, stole second and scored on Strunc's RBI single. Strunc put himself into scoring position with a stolen base and scored on an error.
Green Bay scored another run in the third when Connor Ross reached on an error to score Ryan Donovan, and the Bullfrogs extended their lead to 4-0 with a line-drive home run hit by Paul Jacobson.
The Mallards got on the board in the seventh with a RBI single by J.J. Gould and a run-scoring groundout two batters later.
Ben Messenger pitched a scoreless two innings in relief for the Bullfrogs and struck out a batter. The Bullfrogs tacked on an insurance run in the top of the ninth with a RBI double for Ryan Donovan, and Jeremy Graf picked up the save by closing out the Mallards in the bottom half of the inning.
Alex Martinez will be on the mound for Green Bay tonight, making his second start. In his last start, he threw five innings, allowed no earned runs on five hits, walked one and struck out five in a 7-3 win in Madison. Martinez began the season in the bullpen with a pair of late-inning appearances and carries a 2.25 earned run average in eight innings of work.
The Woodchucks roll out Matt Smith, a 6-foot-3 lefty, who is making his third start. Smith had a no decision in his last outing, allowing a run on five hits with two walks and five strikeouts in a 3-1 loss to La Crosse.
