Chinooks And Mallards Postponed During 2nd Inning

June 11, 2015 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Lakeshore Chinooks News Release

The Lakeshore Chinooks took a four-game winning streak to Madison on Thursday looking to stay hot and continue their climb of the South Division standings. Unfortunately, the rain had other ideas. After it poured down for a good part of the day, a small window allowed the Chinooks and Mallards to play two innings of baseball. However, the rain came back, and, after a delay, the game was ultimately postponed with the Chinooks leading 3-0 after the top of the second inning.

Lakeshore wasted no time taking the lead, scoring three runs in the top of the first. Jake Romano (Miami-Ohio) and Kyle Fiala (Notre Dame) led off the inning with back-to-back singles, and they both advanced a base after a wild pitch from Mallards starter Nick Gruener (Harvard). Romano then scored on a Doug Kraeger (Richmond) groundout. Kyle Wood (Purdue) then opened things up, hitting a monster two-run shot up and over the Madison scoreboard in right field.

Chinooks starter Brian Keller (UW-Milwaukee) looked good in his single inning pitched. He allowed one hit and no walks while getting out of the inning without allowing a run. He will presumably be unavailable to pitch in tomorrow's contests.

The Chinooks and the Mallards will now face off in a double-header on Friday, June 12th. They will resume this game in the bottom of the second at 5:00 on Friday and the second game will be shortened to seven innings.
