
Bulldogs sign goaltender Desjardins

HAMILTON, ON (Wednesday, July 26th, 2006)...The Hamilton Bulldogs announced today the signing of goaltender Cédrick Desjardins to a two-year American Hockey League contract. As per club policy, financial terms of the deal are not disclosed.
Desjardins, a 20 year-old native of Edmunston, New Brunswick, recently completed his fourth season in the Québec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL), where he compiled a 67-47-4 record in 128 regular season games with the Rimouski Oceanic (2002-2005) and Québec Remparts (2005-2006).
In 2004-2005, the 6'0", 192-pound goaltender posted a 30-7-4 record, with a 2.95 goals against average, and a .909 save percentage for the QMJHL regular season champion Oceanic. In 13 post-season games, Desjardins went 12-1-0, with a 2.66 goals against average, and a .927 save percentage, as Rimouski captured the QMJHL championship, and earned a birth in the Memorial Cup, where they lost in the final to the London Knights.
In 2005-2006, Desjardins played in 41 regular season games for the Remparts, and posted a 28-10-0 record, with a 2.95 goals against average, a .906 save percentage, and 5 shutouts. In the playoffs, Desjardins went 14-9-0, with a 2.55 goals against average, and a .927 save percentage for Québec, who lost in the QMJHL final to the Moncton Wildcats. In the Memorial Cup, the left-handed catching goaltender was 3-1, with a 2.76 goals against average, and a .926 save percentage in four games for Patrick Roy's Remparts, who defeated the Wildcats by a final score of 6-2 to win the Canadian Hockey League championship. Following the four-team tournament, Desjardins was awarded the Hap Emms Memorial Trophy (top goaltender), and was also named to the Memorial Cup All-Star Team.
In operation since 1936, the American Hockey League is the top development league for all 30 National Hockey League teams. Over 80 percent of NHL players are AHL graduates, and more than 350 AHL players were recalled to the NHL during the 2005-2006 season alone.
