Hamilton Bulldogs News Release
CEDAR PARK, TX - The Hamilton Bulldogs scored three third period goals to defeat the Texas Stars 4-2 in a high-shooting, fast-paced game.
The Stars took a 1-0 lead 17:34 into the game, when Travis Morin scored his 11th of the season in a first period dominated by the Bulldogs. Texas netminder Jake Campbell made 19 saves in the first 20 minutes, while Hamilton goaltender Robert Mayer faced 6 shots.
Luke Gazdic gave the Stars a 2-0 lead at 11:12 into the second period with a one-timed shot. His 10th of the season came on a 2-on-1 opportunity following a Bulldogs scoring chance at the other end of the ice. Then, Travis Novak scored his first goal as a professional hockey player on a precise cross-slot pass from Ryan Flanigan to put the Bulldogs on the scoreboard.
Gabriel Dumont took advantage of a third period power play opportunity to tie the game at 2 with 6:09 left in the game. Then, with just 1:16 left to play, Andreas Engqvist sent a pass from behind the Texas net to Joonas Nattinen, who one-timed the puck while tumbling into the crease to give the Bulldogs a 3-2 lead, their first of the game. Mark Mitera sealed the deal for the 'Dogs with an empty net goal.
The 'Dogs tested Campbell 39 times in the game, while the Stars sent 30 shots on Mayer's net. The Bulldogs also extended their perfect penalty killing streak to 22-in-22 with two shorthanded goals in that stretch.
The Bulldogs wrap up their Texas trip on Saturday, March 31st, 2012 at 8:30 p.m. ET when they take on the Houston Aeros at the Toyota Center.
