
Aeros Nipped by Monsters in Shootout

HOUSTON --- Jon DiSalvatore scored his 26th goal of the season and had an assist to lead the Houston Aeros in a 4-3 shootout loss to the Lake Erie Monsters Thursday at Toyota Center.
Nick Palmieri and Kris Fredheim scored for the Aeros, and Justin Fontaine and Jeff Taffe each had two assists. Matt Hackett had 25 saves and stopped two of four shots in the shootout for Houston, which is now 32-23-4-10 this season and has 78 points.
Fredheim scored a power play goal at 14:56 in the third period to tie the score at 3-3, but in the shootout Ryan Stoa and David van der Gulik scored for Lake Erie to give the Monsters the win.
DiSalvatore tied the game at 2-2 with a power play goal at 1:13 into the second period, but Mike Connolly put Lake Erie back on top 3-2 with a goal at 11:17 in the second.
After van der Gulik put Lake Erie ahead 1-0 on a power play goal at 8:41 in the first, Palmieri tied the score at 1-1 with a goal 25 seconds later.
Karl Stollery gave the Monsters a 2-1 lead with a power play goal at 19:30 in the first.
The Aeros continue a five-game homestand Saturday against the Hamilton Bulldogs at 7:35 p.m. at Toyota Center.
