Bulldogs Dropped 5-3 by Wolves

Hamilton, ON - The Hamilton Bulldogs were defeated by the Chicago Wolves 5-3 in front of 5,101 fans at Copps Coliseum on Tuesday night. Dustin Boyd extended his goal-scoring streak to six games as he recorded a hat trick but it was not enough as Chicago tallied two third period goals to earn the win.

The Wolves got on the scoreboard first at 1:16 of the opening period. Riley Holzapfel fired a shot on net that was stopped by Hamilton starting goaltender Curtis Sanford. Sanford appeared to injure himself on the prior play, which allowed Spencer Machacek to grab the rebound and send it past Sanford, who was unable to move across the crease.

Following this goal, Robert Mayer replaced Sanford in net.

The 'Dogs tied the game 1-1 at 9:39 of the first frame with a power-play goal. David Desharnais received the puck from Ben Maxwell before sending a pass to Dustin Boyd, who was stationed at the left side of the net. Boyd rifled a shot over the shoulder of Chicago starting goaltender Peter Mannino.

Chicago took a 2-1 lead at 12:46 of the opening stanza. Boris Valabik blasted a shot towards the net that Angelo Esposito managed to get his stick on. Esposito redirected the puck over the shoulder of Mayer and into the net.

Boyd added his second goal of the game at 14:17 of the first period while on the power play. Kyle Klubertanz slid the puck to Brendon Nash, who dished a pass to Boyd in front of the net. Boyd tapped the puck past Mannino and into the net.

The Wolves regained their lead at 3:21 of the middle frame. Darren Haydar gave the puck to Michael Davies, who drove towards the Hamilton net. Davies fired a shot that bounced around in front of the net before slipping past Mayer and across the goal line.

Boyd scored his hat-trick goal at 9:13 of the second stanza. Maxwell received the puck from Nash while stationed at the right side boards. Maxwell fired a shot towards the net that was tipped by Boyd and sailed past Mannino.

Chicago took a 4-3 lead at 9:29 of the final frame with a power play goal. Jason Krog dished the puck to the right point, where Paul Postma was positioned. Postma blasted a shot that travelled through traffic and past Mayer. Mike Siklenka gave the Wolves a 5-3 lead at 12:10. Nigel Dawes sent the puck to Haydar, who fed a pass to Siklenka. Siklenka released a shot from the left point that sailed through traffic and into the net.

The Bulldogs will play their final game of 2010 when they welcome the Lake Erie Monsters to Copps Coliseum for a 7:00 p.m. game on Thursday, December 30th. All regular season Hamilton Bulldogs broadcasts on AM 820 CHAM will begin with a pre-game show 30 minutes prior to the scheduled start time.
