TODAY'S GAME: Tonight, the Buffalo Bisons take on the Syracuse Chiefs in the first game of a four-game series from Alliance Bank Stadium. Buffalo is coming off a successful 6-3 homestand and back-to-back wins over the Charlotte Knights. On the mound tonight will be RHP Sean Smith. The Bisons' leader in wins threw a seven-inning complete game to beat the Chiefs in the first game of a doubleheader on Monday. Syracuse will counter with LHP Gustavo Chacin.
PACK YOUR BAGS: Tonight's game begins the Herd's longest road trip of the season. The team will play 11 games in the next 10 days away from Dunn Tire Park. After this four game set in Syracuse, the Bisons will head to Pawtucket for a pair of games. Buffalo then goes to Scranton/WB for five games in four days against the first place Yankees.
GO NORTH: Tonight's game also starts the stretch of 38 games against International League North division teams that will take the Bisons to the end of the regular season. Buffalo's 27-15 record within the IL North is the best among the six teams.
ROAD WARRIORS: With 28 wins, the Bisons have the third best road record in the International League. At 28-23, the Herd's .549 winning percentage away from Dunn Tire Park is behind only Richmond (33-21) and Scranton/WB (30-23).
MEET MR. SMITH: RHP Sean Smith collected his team-leading ninth win with a seven-inning complete game two-hitter against the Chiefs on Monday. He faced just five more than the minimum and struck out six in that game. In his last six starts, Smith is 4-1 with a 3.38ERA (40.0IP, 35H, 15R, 15ER, 14BB, 22K). He also leads the Bisons with 67 strikeouts on the year.
HOT HITTER: Keith Ginter enters tonight's game with a seven-game hit streak. Since July 19, he has averaged .435 (10-23) with four doubles, a home run and eight RBI. Ginter now has 46RBI on the year, second only to Ryan Mulhern (57). So far in July, Ginter is hitting .322 (19-59) with five doubles, three home runs and 11RBI in 17 games.
GONE STREAKIN': Infielder Luis Rivas is on a season-best nine game hitting streak. Since July 19, Rivas is batting .429 (12-28), with seven runs scored, three doubles and two RBI. The stretch has raised the All-Star's average 14 points to .262. When batting in the third spot in the order, Rivas is hitting .357 (25-70) with nine RBI in 19 games.
