Des Moines Buccaneers News Release
Sioux Falls used an extra attacker goal to force overtime where they were able to claim both points in the 4-3 overtime victory over Des Moines on Tuesday night.
The Buccaneers would surrender the first goal of the period when Jack Suter brought the puck in with Parker Tuomie and from in between the circles slid the puck over to his left finding Tuomie who blasted a shot past Nick MacNab to give Sioux Falls the 1-0 lead. The Buccaneers would respond in the period though as Anea Ferrario blasted a shot from the right point that went off the inside of the right post and sat in the crease behind goaltender Stefanos Lekkas before Nikita Pavlychev swept it in for his 9th goal of the season. The Buccaneers outshot Sioux Falls by a 15-8 margin in the opening 20 minutes.
The Buccaneers took the lead early in the second period on one of the prettiest passing plays of the season. David Keefer took the puck into the left wing circle and then passed over to Kenny Hausinger who was on the inside edge of the right circle. He found Kobe Roth parked out front of the net to Lekkas' right and tapped it in at the 1:29 mark of the period, putting Des Moines on top 2-1. Nick MacNab would stop Tuomie on a penalty shot in the second period but Tuomie would get his revenge and help tie up the game. Tuomie skated in the left wing side and wrapped around the goal and when popping out front of the goal line slid the puck over to Suter who beat an outstretched MacNab who dove to his right but not in time. Again the Buccaneers held the edge in shots on goal in the period, a 13-11 advantage during the middle frame.
Des Moines took their second leaf of the game when Ty Pelton-Byce took the goal from below the goal line on the left wing side and peeled back then while skating away from the goal line and up against the boards backhanded a pass to Zach Jordan in between the circles that Jordan slammed home in between the circles and beat the goaltender 5-hole 6:13 into the period. Sioux Falls would need the extra attacker to tie the game with 1:11 left to force overtime and from there end to end action eventually led to a 3 on 3 and Joe Rutkowski scored the game winner when he cut in from MacNab's right and caused the goalie to open up his legs and he slid home the goal between the pads at the 4:36 mark. Lekkas had 34 saves in the win while MacNab made 33 saves in defeat.
Up next for the Buccaneers is the final game of the season at home against Muskegon on Saturday, April 9th.
