LAREDO, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League beat the Odessa Jackalopes 4-2 Tuesday night at Laredo Energy Arena. The Bucks took four out of six points in the three game series with the Jackalopes to improve to 3-2-1 (seven points) on the season.
Neil Trimm picked up three points (1-23) while Jeff Bes had two (1-12) to lead the Bucks to their first home win of the season (1-0-1). Torrie Jung improved to 2-0 in net as he set aside 32 of 34 shots.
Bes is just one point away from 1,000 in his career.
The Bucks jumped out in front of the Jackalopes 9:06 into the first period when Hans Benson found Aaron Boogard at the top of the slot with Boogard then scoring on a slap shot. The goal was Boogard's first of the season.
The Bucks scored first for just the second time this season with both occasions being against Odessa.
Laredo killed off a four-minute Odessa power-play in the first period to keep hold of a 1-0 advantage after 20 minutes.
In the three game series the Bucks killed off all 19 Jackalopes power-play.
The Bucks outshot the Jackalopes 14-12 in the first period.
Laredo increased their lead to 2-0 when they struck on the power-play just 26 seconds into the second period. Trimm took a drop pass from Bes and scored from the slot to pick up his third goal of the season.
Odessa (2-5, four points) cut the Bucks lead to 2-1 at the 9:22 mark of the period when Sebastien Thinel jammed in a backhander from the crease. The strike was Thinel's sixth of the season and second in as many games.
Ryan Lehr put the Bucks up 3-1 with 5:17 left in the second period when jammed in a rebound from the crease to pick up his second of the season.
The Bucks were outshot 17-9 in the second period.
Bes put the Bucks up 4-1 with 4:14 left in the third period when he took a feed from Daniel Koger and stuffed in a shot from the bottom of the left circle. The goal was Bes' first of the season and his 200th in the CHL. Bes is just the 21st player in CHL history to record 200 goals.
Odessa cut the Bucks lead to 4-2 less than one minute later when Dominic Leveille scored his second goal in as many games.
Each team put up five shot in the third period with the Jackalopes outshooting the Bucks in the game 34-28.
Joel Martin fell to 1-4 on the season as he stopped 24 shots in net for Odessa.
