Laredo Bucks News Release

PRESCOTT VALLEY, AZ- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League beat the Arizona Sundogs 4-1 Wednesday night at Tim's Toyota Center. The Bucks picked up their second straight win as they improve to 16-21-6 (38 points).

The Bucks move ahead of Rio Grande Valley by one point for the final playoff spot in the Berry Conference and are one point behind Arizona for seventh place.

Torrie Jung stopped a career high 48 of 49 shots to win his second straight game and Jeff Bes scored two third period goals. The Bucks have picked up back to back road wins for the first time since October.

Laredo scored three third period goals to break a 1-1 tie and to improve to 13-1-1 when scoring four or more goals.

Bes gave the Bucks a 2-1 lead when he jammed in a backhander from the right side of the crease to net his 16th of the year.

Six minutes later Bes put Laredo up 3-1 when he bounced the puck off the pad of Sundogs goaltender Doug Groenstege and into the back of the net with the Bucks on the power-play. The strike was Bes' second of the game and 17th of the season.

Hans Benson made it 4-1 Laredo when he re-directed Adam Rivet's shot from the point to pick up his ninth goal of the season. Rivet passed James Hiebert for fourth place all-time in Bucks history with 229 points.

The Bucks outshot the Sundogs 12-11 in the third period but were outshot in the game 49-20. The 49 shots allowed were the most this season by a Bucks opponent.

Arizona (17-23-5) scored first against Laredo for the second straight night when Tyler Butler scored from the point on the power-play 8:11 into the opening period. The goal was Butler's ninth of the season. Arizona has scored first 18 times this season.

The Sundogs outshot the Bucks 21-3 in the first period.

The Bucks would tie the game at 1-1 with 7:38 left in the second period when Jeff Hazelwood jammed in a rebound right in front of the net. The goal was Hazelwood's 11th of the season and third in the Bucks last two games.

The Sundogs outshot the Bucks 17-5 in the second period to build a 38-8 shot advantage through two periods.

The Bucks played with 14 skaters again Wednesday night as the team's leading goal scorer Daniel Koger and Brian Matte both sat out with injuries. Koger's status for Friday's game is not yet known while Matte will not be available for the rest of the road trip.

The Bucks and Sundogs will close out their three-game series Friday night at Tim's Toyota Center. Game time is 8:05pm.
