With four games remaining, the Bucs are looking to get home ice advantage in the USHL playoffs. They will need to finish in third place or better in the Western Division to achieve that goal. With second and last place being seperated by only eight points, all teams are still in the race. The four remaining teams on the Buccaneers schedule are Western Division opponents.The Buccaneers host the Sioux City Musketeers on Friday night at 95KGGO Arena. The Buccaneers are 4-1 this season against the Musketeers. Sioux City is four points behind the Bucs in the standings however, they still have six games remaining on their schedule.Saturday night, the Bucs travel to the Ice Box to take on the Lincoln Stars. Lincoln is currently three points ahead of the Bucs in the Western Division. The season series is tied at three games a piece, Saturday is the final regular season meeting between the teams.
Week in Review
The Buccaneers went 1-0-1 this past week and scored three out of a possible four points to stay in the Western Division race. On March 30, the Bucs were downed in a shootout to rival Omaha by a score of 3-2. Buccaneer forwards Derek Elliott(7) and Rich Purslow(27) tallied the two goals in regulation. Goalie Matt Dalton made 25 saves. Purslow and Matt Read were the lone scorers in the shootout.The Buccaneers were able to take care of business on March 31 as they defeated the Lincoln Stars 5-1 at 95KGGO Arena. After giving up a Lincoln goal just three minutes into the game, the Bucs came back with five unanswered goals to get the win. Michael Dorr(6, 7) had two goals in that game. Aaron Palushaj(20), Andrew Olson(17) and Rody Selk(3) each had a goal of their own.
The Rich Purslow Watch
Buccaneers forward Rich Purslow is currently leading the USHL in points with 73 points. He has compiled 27 goals and 46 assists in 56 games. Lincoln's Jared Brown is close behind with 70 points on 30 goals and 40 assists. Puslow can be the first Buccaneer to capture the USHL scoring title since Peter Sejna in the 1999-00 season. Sejna finished with 94 points that season and is now currently playing in the NHL for the St. Louis Blues. Be sure to get all the updated statistics at www.pointstreak.com.
Season Ticket Party
The Des Moines Buccaneers will be hosting there Season Ticket Party before the first home playoff game. Food and drinks will be available in Blackbeard's Lounge while fans purchase or renew their season tickets for the 2007-08 season. Anyone interested in buying season tickets are welcome to attend.
