Stampede move up standings after big weekend

The Sioux Falls Stampede moved into a fourth place tie with the Des Moines Buccaneers after going a perfect 3-0-0 over the weekend. The Stampede are now 31-19-5 after posting wins over

Lincoln, Sioux City and Green Bay. The Herd trail third place Tri-City by three points and second place Lincoln by four points with five games remaining in the regular season.

On Friday, David Solway recorded a hat-trick as the Stampede blasted Lincoln 6-1 at the Ice Box. Corey Tropp also posted a three point night (1g, 2a) while Matt Lundin stopped 37 of 38 shots in goal.

On Saturday, the Stampede scored five times in the second period en route to a 5-2 victory over Sioux City at the Tyson Events Center. Brad Malone recorded three points (2g, 1a) while Lundin once again played strong, stopping 33 of 35 shots in goal.

Yesterday afternoon, the Stampede rallied from a 2-1 third period deficit and topped the Green Bay Gamblers 4-2. Nick Dineen recorded two goals while Solway chipped in two assists. Lundin stopped 19 of 21 shots to earn his third straight victory and 22nd of the season.

HOME SWEET HOME-

The Stampede will play four of their last five regular season games at the Sioux Falls Arena starting this Wednesday when they host the Waterloo Black Hawks at 7:05 PM. This is the makeup date of the March 2nd game that was postponed. Fans that purchased tickets for the March 2nd game will be honored for the Wednesday, April 4th contest.

The Stampede will then play host to the Omaha Lancers on Friday before traveling to Kearney, NE for a game against Tri-City on Saturday. The Stampede close out the regular season, April 13th and 14th with games against Lincoln and Tri-City.

POST-GAME SKATING PARTY

THIS FRIDAY

Be sure to bring your skates to the April 6th game versus Omaha on Friday for the second McDonald's Post-Game "Skating Party" of the season.

Immediately following the game on Friday, several Stampede players will join fans on the ice for a 30-minute skating session. All remaining players will be made available for an autograph session near the dressing room for non-skating fans.

Every fan participating in the Skating Party or Autograph Session will receive Free Stampede Photo Cards! A reminder that NO skates will be rented at the arena.

The Stampede are 4-1-0 in their last five games.

The Herd have the best road record in the USHL at 18-9-2.

The Stampede are 18-10-4 against the West Division this year.

Ryan Guentzel is on a five-game point streak (1g, 6a).

David Solway has eight points (5g, 3a) in his last five games.

Drew Fisher has eight points (3g, 5a) in his last five games.

Matt Lundin went 3-0-0 with a 1.66 GAA and a .946 save percentage over the weekend. He ranks third overall in the USHL with a 22-14-5 record, a 2.56 GAA and a .911 save percentage.

Dan Sexton is second in the USHL with four shorthanded goals this season.

NCAA FROZEN FOUR PREVIEW TODAY ON INSIDE STAMPEDE HOCKEY-

The 2007 Frozen Four is set for this Thursday & Saturday and features three former Stampede players. Jim McKenzie and Michigan State will face Maine at 3 PM on Thursday while Joe Finley, T.J. Oshie and North Dakota will play Boston College in the other semi-final at 7 PM. Both games will be broadcast live on ESPN2. The semi-final winners will meet in the championship game on Saturday at 6 PM on ESPN.

Tune into "Inside Stampede Hockey" today from 5 PM to 6 PM on AM-1230 KWSN for a preview of the Frozen Four. Jim Olander will break down both games and talk with Michigan State head coach Rick Comley.

VANEK WATCH:

Former Stampede star Thomas Vanek recorded two goals and an assist in two games over the weekend for the Buffalo Sabres. Vanek tallied a goal and an assist in Friday's 6-4 win over the New York Islanders and a goal in a 4-3 loss to Montreal on Saturday.

Vanek is an NHL best +40 through 78 games. The Sabres currently have the best record in the Eastern Conference at 50-21-7 and 107 points. They trail Detroit by just one point for the best overall record in the NHL with four games remaining in the regular season. The Sabres return to action this Tuesday when they travel to Pittsburgh to face Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and the Penguins at 6 PM (CST). The game will be broadcast live on "Versus" (Midcontinent Cable channel 71). Here is a look at the Sabres remaining schedule:
