Des Moines Buccaneers News Release

The Des Moines Buccaneers took the lead in the third period of a tied game in Bloomington but the Thunder answered back with two goals in under a minute to come away victorious 4-3.

The Buccaneers flipped the script from their last game in Bloomington on Friday; while they were only able to get 5 shots on goal in the opening period last time around, Des Moines kept Logan Halladay busy in the first period with 12 shots on goal. It took the 8:13 mark for the Buccaneers to strike as Alec Rauhauser took the puck from the left wing side and skated in deep firing a shot that Halladay made a pad save on but gave a juicy rebound in the slot that Kenny Hausinger buried for his thirteenth goal of the season. Just under a minute later Anea Ferrario made a long pass from his goal line to the offensive blue line that Ty Pelton-Byce gathered and broke towards the net; Pelton-Byce's first shot was stopped by Halladay but he followed up his own rebound and scored at 9:14 to give the Buccaneers a 2-0 lead. That goal was the Bucs' second on just 5 shots and chased Halladay from the game with Hayden Lavigne coming in in relief.

The Thunder seemed to be sparked by the goaltender change and responded as Logan Lambdin with a wrist shot that beat Nick MacNab high on the blocker side at 12:30 of the first, and that would finish the scoring in the first for both sides. Tarek Baker picked up a goal extending his goal scoring streak to a USHL high 7 games when he finished off a Ryan Brushett feed at 3:47 of the second period. Des Moines was held to just 8 shots on goal in the second period, while Bloomington increased their first period 7 shots on goal to 11 in the second period.

Alec Rauhauser picked up his second point of the night and 3rd goal of the season when his shot from high in the right circle beat Hayden Lavigne high blocker side to give the Buccaneers the lead again at 3:12 of the third period. Nick MacNab made two big saves about five minutes later, including one on Logan Lambdin who cut in on the goaltender all alone and MacNab made a sprawling pad save. Bloomington kept up the pressure however and scored moments later with Lambdin getting his second goal of the game. Jeremy Davies then just 35 seconds later floated a puck from just inside the blueline at the left point that MacNab didn't see and it fell in perfectly, hitting the crossbar and falling down and in.

The Buccaneers have a strong push to get the game tied up, particularly when Lambdin was called for hooking David Keefer with 1:23 left, allowing the Bucs a chance 6 on 4 with MacNab pulled. Patrick Grasso had the final look for Des Moines but Lavigne made a pad save as time expired and pushing and shoving ensued as the horn sounded.

The Buccaneers fall to 15-17-2 on the year and Nick MacNab made 24 saves in the loss. Up next for Des Moines is a home contest against the Omaha Lancers on Friday, January 22nd.
