Muskegon Lumberjacks News Release
MUSKEGON, MI - Rem Pitlick and Matej Paulovic scored two goals to lift the Muskegon Lumberjacks to a 5-4 overtime victory against the United States National Team Development U17 Program. The Lumberjacks improved to (14-14-3) on the season, and (7-3) in the overtime frame.
Pitlick started the scoring this afternoon with a breakaway goal on Team USA goaltender Adam Scheel. Collin Adams notched the assist on the goal after extending a perfect pass to Pitlick in the neutral zone. Team USA tied the game one minute later, when David Farrance batted home his own rebound.
The Lumberjacks top line gave them the lead again, early in the second period. Matej Paulovic smashed home a breakaway goal for his first goal since returning from injury. Sean Dhooge and Team USA would respond a couple minutes later to level the game 2-2. Muskegon took another one goal lead, when Max Humitz extended his point streak to seven games, after a pass from Will Graber and Danny DiGrande, set up the Lake Superior State commit, for his seventh goal of the season.
The U17 program would take their first lead of the afternoon after getting two unanswered goals from Randy Hernandez and Dhooge. However, Pitlick quickly netted his second of the game, to send the afternoon into an extra session.
The Lumberjacks started the overtime frame on a power play, and it did not take long for them to finish off Team USA. Adams and Trevor Hamilton set up Paulovic back door for the game winner, early in the overtime frame.
Pitlick finished the afternoon with two goals and one assist, and now leads the USHL in goals with 22, and is tied for the USHL scoring lead with 39 points. Paulovic recorded two goals, and Adams registered three assists to help Muskegon to the 5-4 overtime victory.
The Muskegon Lumberjacks (14-14-3) will look to build off of the recent success when they travel to Iowa for a pair of weekend games. Friday, Muskegon will take on the first place Cedar Rapids RoughRiders (22-9-3). Saturday the Lumberjacks will push west, to challenge the Des Moines Buccaneers (15-16-2). The next Muskegon Lumberjacks home game is February 5th against the Bloomington Thunder.
