Musketeers Face Lincoln in Lone Weekend Game
January 18, 2016 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Sioux City Musketeers News Release
For the second time in 8 days, the Musketeers will travel to Lincoln, Nebraska this Friday night to face the Lincoln Stars in Sioux City's only game this week. Game time is 7:05pm.
Last Thursday, the Musketeers upset the Stars 3-1 at the Ice Box in Lincoln to earn back two crucial points between the Western Conference Rivals. Sioux City now holds a 2-1-0-0 record against the Stars in a 6 game season series.
On Friday night, the Musketeers beat I29 rival Omaha 3-2 in overtime to gain a point on the Lancers in their four-game series. Sioux City finished their season series against Omaha with a 3-1-0-0 record, which clinches any would be tie for playoff positioning against the Lancers in a tightly contested Western Conference Playoff scenario.
Forward CJ Dodero announced his commitment to the University of Denver on Friday night, January 15th via Twitter following the Musketeers win in Omaha. The rookie forward who participated in the USHL/NHL Top Prospects game in Omaha last week has 7 goals and 13 assists through 33 games played this season.
Defenseman Ryan Zuhlsdorf continues to pace all USHL Defensemen in assists with 22.
The Finnish duo of Eeli Tolvanen and Teemu Pulkkinen continue to lead the Musketeers in scoring this season. Tolvanen leads the team in scoring with 14 goals and 17 assists in 29 games played so far this season. The younger Finn also ranks second among USHL rookies in scoring, second only to Youngstown's Cameron Morrison, who is a year older than the young Finn from Nummela, Finland. Pulkkinen, the elder Finn on the Musketeers roster, clocks in with 11 goals and 12 assists for 23 points, good for second on the team in scoring.
The Friday night contest in Lincoln will be broadcast live on FASTHockey at ushl.fasthockey.com. Fans can also listen to the Musketeers game live on their AM radio dial on FOX Sports Radio 620 KMNS, or on the KMNS channel on iHeartradio.com, or on the iHeartradio phone app. Game time is 7:00pm.
The Musketeers currently sit in 5th place in the USHL's Western Conference. Just 4 points separate the Musketeers from the Tri-City Storm and the Lincoln Stars, who are currently tied for first in the Western Conference with 39 points each. Omaha sits in sole possession of 2nd place with 37 points, while Sioux Falls is nestled between Omaha and Sioux City at 4th place with 36 points. The Musketeers have 35 points on the season to date.
The Musketeers return to Tyson Events Center at the End of January for a 3:00pm game against the Waterloo Black Hawks on Sunday, January 31st. Fans are invited to stay after the Sunday contest to skate with the team. Skating is free if fans bring their own skates. Skates will be available for rental for just $3.00 for those who do not have skates.
