Des Moines Buccaneers News Release

The Des Moines Buccaneers were unable to get an even strength goal in Green Bay and despite the two teams trading the lead it was the Gamblers on top 3-2 when the final horn sounded.

Jan Ruzicka really helped keep the Buccaneers in the game early on as Des Moines was whistled for two penalties in the first five minutes and Green Bay was able to get the first seven shots on goal in the game. Des Moines rebounded with a better second half of the period and nearly caught up to Green Bay in shots on goal after the first twenty minutes with the Gamblers having the edge 11-9 in shots on goal after the first period but neither team was able to get one on the scoreboard.

Green Bay needed little time in the second period as it took Marc Michaelis just 1:04 to get the first goal of the game. The Buccaneers then had back to back MidAmerican Energy power play chances and converted on both. Kenny Hausinger found Ty Pelton-Byce high above the circles and his slapper beat Adam Huska low and to the goalie's left at the 7:09 mark. Pelton-Byce scored just a minute and eight seconds later when Patrick Grasso blasted a shot that Pelton-Byce tipped past Huska's high on the blocker side. The goal was reviewed for high-sticking but stood. The lead wouldn't last long though as Green Bay got a power play goal of their own at the 10:23 mark from Brett Gruber to end the scoring in the second period, though both sides again finished the period with good chances and Jan Ruzicka for the second period in a row made some big saves to keep the game tied.

The Green Bay Gamblers struck again on the power play at the 3:50 mark of the third period when Nick Poehling beat Ruzicka high on the blocker side on a feed from Sam Saliba. The Buccaneers pulled their goaltender Ruzicka in the closing moments and had a couple chances but Adam Huska shut the door. Huska had 21 saves in the win, Ruzicka made 38 saves in defeat. Up next for the Buccaneers is a home contest with the Chicago Steel on Saturday, February 20th.
