Trenton Thunder News Release

The Trenton Thunder, Double-A affiliate of the New York Yankees, announced today that RHP Bryan Mitchell has been optioned back to Trenton from the Yankees (MLB) 25-man roster.

Mitchell warmed in the bullpen during New York's 5-1 win over the Tampa Bay Rays Sunday, but did not appear in the ballgame.

Mitchell, who became a member of the Yankees 40-man roster this past offseason, turned 23 Saturday and was scratched from his scheduled start for Trenton in Saturday afternoon's home game against the Erie SeaWolves. He is expected to start Tuesday's ballgame against the Akron RubberDucks.

The right-hander has a 1-2 record this season with a 5.14 ERA in three starts for the Thunder. He allowed 8 ER in 8.0 IP in his first two starts before striking out 12 over 6.0 shutout innings against the Akron RubberDucks Monday, April 14. The career-high 12 strikeouts were the most in a game for a Thunder starting pitcher since August 18, 2010 when Adam Warren struck out 15 batters vs. Bowie.

With this move, Trenton's active roster stands at 25 players.
