
Fightin Phils blast their way to win over Flying Squirrels

The Reading Fightin Phils haven't missed a beat to begin the month of April as they defeated the Richmond Flying Squirrels 7-3 on Monday night. Tommy Joseph and Cameron Perkins each hit their second home runs of the season to help propel the Fightins to their tenth win of the season.
Richmond got on the board in the top of the first inning as Tyler Graham scored on an error by Carlos Alonso to take a 1-0 lead. The Flying Squirrels scored another run in the top of the second inning off Paulino as Ricky Oropesa hit a solo home run, his first of the season to give Richmond a 2-0 lead.
The Fightin Phils fought back as Cesar Hernandez hit into a fielder's choice off Kelvin Marte which scored Albert Cartwright for their first run of the game and cut the Flying Squirrels lead to 2-1. Tommy Joseph hit a two-run home run off Marte in the bottom of the fourth inning to give the Fightin Phils a 3-2 lead.
The bottom of the fifth innings continued to be golden for the Fightin Phils as Cameron Perkins hit a RBI double off Marte to score Carlos Alonso to give Reading a 4-2 lead. The next batter, Kelly Dugan hit a RBI single off Marte to extend the lead to 5-2 in favor of the Fightin Phils. Marte left the game after 4 2/3 innings and allowed five runs.
Luis Paulino (2-0) pitched five innings and allowed two runs (one earned) off three hits and two walks with three strikeouts. Richmond scored their final run in the game off reliever Mike Nesseth in the top of the sixth inning as Kelby Tomlinson hit a RBI single to cut the Fightins lead to 5-3.
Cameron Perkins hit a two-run home run off Josh Osich in the bottom of the seventh inning to give Reading a 7-3 lead. Ken Giles pitched two scoreless innings to finish out the game and give Reading their tenth win of the year.
The Fightin Phils and Richmond Flying Squirrels return to action on Tuesday evening at 6:35 pm at FirstEnergy Stadium.
