ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Right-hander Bryan Bullington worked six innings without allowing an earned run and tied a career high with seven strikeouts as Indianapolis edged Rochester, 4-3, Sunday afternoon at Frontier Field. Bullington (6.0 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 7 SO), who improves to 3-3 with the victory, has registered a 1.89 ERA (4 ER, 19 IP) over his last three starts.

Tribe RHP Ron Chiavacci (1.0 IP), LHP Mike Johnston (0.2 IP) and RHP Mark Corey (1.1 IP, 1 SO) sealed the deal with three perfect innings as Indianapolis improved to 30-1 when leading after seven innings and 31-1 when holding an advantage after eight frames. Corey also picked up his 13th save of the campaign -- a total which ties for second in the International League.

The Indians, who have won four of their last five games and stay atop the IL's West Division, improve to 39-24 with the victory. The Red Wings fall to 32-32 on the season.

Rochester opened the scoring with a run in the bottom of the fourth. 3B Augie Ojeda hammered a double down the right-field line and came around to score on a Tribe miscue.

Indianapolis responded with four runs in the top of the sixth. 3B Yurendell de Caster started things with his sixth home run of the season -- a solo shot left field with one out. 1B Graham Koonce followed with a walk before DH Ty Wigginton singled through the left side. LF Nate McLouth then smacked a double down the left-field to score Koonce. The inning continued when SS Shaun Skrehot tagged an opposite field, two-run single to plate Wigginton and McLouth.

The Red Wings took advantage of another Indianapolis error to score two runs in the bottom of the seventh, but the Indians re-grouped behind another fine stellar effort from their bullpen.

Rochester RHP Boof Bonser (6.0 IP, 8 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 13 SO) fell to 5-3 with the loss despite tallying a career high for punchouts and only allowing one runner past second base through the first five frames.

Wigginton, Skrehot and catcher Ronny Paulino collected two hits apiece for Indianapolis. The Indians recorded 12 base knocks on the afternoon -- their seventh double-figure effort over the past nine games.

The first pitch was thrown at 2:31 p.m. EDT as the contest was delayed 56 minutes due to rain.

The two teams return to Frontier Field Monday night at 6:05 p.m., for game three of the four-game set. The contest will be carried by ESPN-950 AM as Howard Kellman and Robert Portnoy have the call. Monday's pre-game show begins at 5:45 p.m.
