Green Bay Rockers News Release
Green Bay, Wis. - The Green Bay Bullfrogs look to start another winning streak following last night's 4-3 loss to the La Crosse Loggers on the road to snap a string of eight consecutive victories.
For the fourth game in a row, the Bullfrogs scored in the first inning. Following a leadoff double for Logan Taylor, Robb Paller connected on a RBI single to centerfield. Four batters later, Brian Celsi scored Danny Rosenbaum on a fielder's choice to give Green Bay a 2-0 lead.
La Crosse took the lead in the bottom of the second with a three-run inning. After a pair of singles and a passed ball to open the inning, Alex Merritt put the Loggers on the board with a run-scoring groundout. Keith Skinner plated another run on a RBI single and scored two batters later on an error.
The Loggers led 3-2 until the eighth inning when they added an insurance run when Skinner reached on a fielder's choice to score Will Savage.
Green Bay came close to tying the game in the ninth but came up short. Franco Guardascione reached on an error, and Matthew De La Rosa scored to cut the margin to one with one out. Caleb Ratzman came in as a pinch runner for Guradascione and advanced to third but was left stranded as Ty Blankmeyer struck out to end the game.
Game 2 of the series begins tonight at 7:05 at Copeland Park.
The Bullfrogs will start Sam Brunner for tonight's contest for his fourth start of the year. He comes in with a 2-2 record and a 2.74 earned run average in nine appearances and 19 2/3 innings pitched. Brunner did not allow an earned run when he pitched against the Loggers on May 27 with four strikeouts in 1 2/3 innings.
Matthew Naylor is on the mound for La Crosse tonight making his first start of the season. He has appeared in 12 games in relief and has a 2-0 record with a 2.10 earned run average in 25 2/3 innings pitched. Naylor has yet to face the Bullfrogs this season.
The Bullfrogs will return to Joannes Stadium on July 3 for a game against the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters at 7:05 p.m. with Post Game Fireworks presented by Pepsi.
