Kenosha Kingfish News Release

Wisconsin Rapids, Wis. - An old-fashioned pitchers duel was on display at Historic Witter Field as the Kingfish took down the Rafters 1-0. Not even ten hits were allowed between the two squads, as pitching reigned supreme.

Josh Serio toed the slab for the Kingfish, throwing five scoreless innings while surrendering one hit and striking out three. Serio was relieved after five by Brett Shimanovsky who returned to his dominant ways. Shimanovsky pitched three innings of relief while giving up just two hits, walking one, and striking out three. Shimanovsky made the pitches when they counted most, as he recorded a strikeout against Brock Carpenter, the most dangerous hitter in the Rafter lineup, with the tying run at third to end the eighth frame.

Garrett McKenzie was called upon to pitch the ninth and was relieved after getting the first two outs and allowing a runner to reach third base. J.R. Holloway recorded the final out to end the ball game and notch the save.

The Kingfish struggled offensively, scattering six hits. Their lone run came via a bases loaded walk by Jason Scholl to bring home Eric Filia. That run would prove to be enough to get the win as the Kingfish held off the Rafters 1-0.

The win gets the Kingfish off and running on the second half of the season upon clinching a playoff berth the night before. The Kingfish will be back in action to finish up their two game series with the Rafters tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. The Kingfish will then travel on to La Crosse for a two game series.
