Ice Dogs Get QMJHL Penalty Minutes Leader, Sheldon Wenzel

LONG BEACH, Calif. - The Long Beach Ice Dogs announced today that forward Sheldon Wenzel has agreed to terms for the 2005-2006 season. As per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The 6'1", 220 pound native of Brooks, Alberta led the entire Quebec Major Junior Hockey League last season in penalty minutes with 262. He also contributed 8 goals and 14 points in 59 games for the Lewiston MAINEiacs. The year before, the 21-year old enforcer finished 3rd in the league with 264 penalty minutes while also scoring 18 goals and 7 assists in 64 games for Lewiston.

"Sheldon is a big, tough, rugged kid who likes to play physical and will add that dimension to our hockey club this season", said Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations, Malcolm Cameron. "We're looking forward to having him in an Ice Dogs uniform."

Wenzel came highly recommended by Clem Jodoin, Head Coach and General Manager of the Lewiston MAINEiacs. Jodoin spent five seasons as an assistant coach and player scout with the Montreal Canadiens from 1997-2002.
