COLUMBIA, SC (July 18, 2005) - The Columbia Inferno announce the hiring of former ECHL player Troy Mann as the 2005-06 assistant coach.

Mann will work alongside newly named Head Coach Ted Dent as the Inferno play their fifth season in the ECHL. He comes to Columbia from the Topeka Tarantulas in the Central Hockey League where he held the assistant coach position including interim head coach for 15 games during the 2004-05 season.

"We are very happy to announce the hiring of Troy as our new assistant coach. He brings a tremendous amount of pro experience playing minor league hockey in 11 season," said Coach Ted Dent. "Troy comes highly recommended and served as the assistant coach in the Central Hockey League in Topeka during the 2004-05 season. He has the experience of winning a Kelly Cup as a player in the ECHL with the SeaWolves in 1999."

In his eleven years of playing hockey, the New Brunswick native is no stranger to the ECHL. He was the first player to ever sign with the Mississippi SeaWolves in 1996. He also won the Kelly Cup in 1998-99 with the SeaWolves. Other ECHL teams Mann has played for is the Hampton-Roads Admirals, Tallahassee Tiger Sharks and the Jackson Bandits. He also saw action in the Central Hockey League, United Hockey League and Sweden.

"As a former player of the ECHL, it has been my goal to return to the League in a Coaching capacity. I am thrilled that Rick, Ted and the Inferno Organization are providing this opportunity to be their Assistant Coach," said Mann. "I feel this is the next step in pursuing my goal of becoming a Head Coach in the foreseeable future. My wife and I are impressed with the Columbia area and are both looking forward to the coming year."

Mann marks the second assistant coach to help the Inferno embark on a successful season. Malcolm Cameron, head coach of the Long Beach Ice Dogs of the ECHL, was Columbia's first assistant coach during the 2001-02 inaugural season.

Come join the Inferno as they play their fifth season in the ECHL starting on Friday, October 21st at 7:05pm as they face the Greenville Grrrowl. Season, partial and group tickets are now on sale by calling 256-7825.
