
ECHL Players Help Team USA Win Bronze Medal

PRINCETON, N.J. - Ten former ECHL players were on the roster that helped Team USA capture the bronze medal with a 6-0 win over the Czech Republic on Sunday at the 2005 International Ice Hockey Federation InLine Hockey World Championships in Kuopio, Finland.
Led by defenseman Ernie Hartlieb, who played on the American Conference Champion Florida Everblades in 2004-05, Team USA scored four goals in the third quarter and two in the fourth quarter to capture its third bronze medal and ninth medal overall in the last 10 years. Hartlieb had a goal and two assists in the win and scored a total of 13 points (4g-9a) in six games in the tournament.
Former ECHL players Jason Deskins (2g, 0a), who was named player of the game, and Chris Peterson (0g-2a) also tallied two points apiece while Brad Parsons had one goal in the game.
Team USA has won four gold medals (1996, 1997, 1999 and 2004), two silver medals (1998 and 2001) and three bronze medals (2000, 2003 and 2005). They won their last gold medal by defeating defending champion Finland at the 2004 IIHF World Championships in Bad Tolz, Germany.
There were seven ECHL players on the Team USA roster when it captured the gold medal in 2004, including Deskins, Hartlieb, Nolan and Reynaert. In the gold medal game, Hartlieb led Team USA with six points (2g-4a) while Deskins had three points (1g-2a). Hartlieb led Team USA and ranked second in the tournament with 12 assists and 19 points in six games and was voted as the tournament's top defenseman. Deskins led Team USA and tied for fourth in the tournament with eight goals while ranking fourth in the tournament with 16 points (8g-8a) in six games.
