Bruins sign Filipowicz for season

The Providence Bruins announced today that they have signed veteran defenseman Jayme Filipowicz to an American Hockey League contract for the 2004-05 season. The 28-year-old native of Arlington Heights, Illinois had been with the team on a tryout contract. Filipowicz has one assist and 13 PIM in six games this season.

"We have been impressed with Jayme in his first six games, and we thought signing him for the entire season would be a positive for us," said Bruins head coach Scott Gordon. "Jayme is a smart, steady veteran on our blueline, who also brings energy and leadership. He brings toughness to our team, and an outstanding work ethic, as well."

Filipowicz is playing in his sixth professional season, his fourth in the AHL. He played three seasons of collegiate hockey at the University of New Hampshire (HE) from 1996-99, being named a 1998-99 Hockey East First-Team All-Star and Second-Team All-American. After helping the Wildcats reach the 1999 NCAA National Championship Game, he began his professional career with the Milwaukee Admirals (IHL). He played two seasons in Milwaukee before playing in the AHL with Quebec, Saint John and Hartford. In 195 career AHL games, Filipowicz has 4-27-31 totals and 342 PIM. He has 14-71-85 totals and 599 PIM in 359 career professional games in the AHL, IHL and ECHL.

The Bruins hit the road for their next four games, beginning on Friday, October 29 at 7:05 p.m., when they visit the Worcester IceCats. The Bruins take on the Norfolk Admirals on Friday, November 5 at 7:30 p.m. before heading to Hershey, Pennsylvania. The Bruins face off with the Bears on Saturday, November 6 at 7:00 p.m. and Sunday, November 7 at 5:00 p.m. The action for all four games will be broadcast live on WDDZ AM-550, and the team website, www.providencebruins.com.

The Bruins return home to host the Hershey Bears on Friday, November 12 at 7:05 p.m. Fans will receive a free Providence Bruins magnet schedule, courtesy of Shaw's Supermarkets.
