Bruins Sail Past Admirals 4-1

Providence, RI -- The Providence Bruins improved to (47-21-0-5) with a 4-1 win this afternoon over the Norfolk Admirals at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. Torey Krug and Alexander Fallstrom each had two goals in the victory. Niklas Svedberg made 26 saves in the win.

The game got off to a fast paced start for both teams. Providence did not register a shot until almost four minutes into the period but from there dominated in shots and kept Norfolk from getting their pucks on net with Providence outshooting Norfolk 11-3 after 20 minutes. The P-Bruins started to get into some penalty trouble in the second half of the period but their 7th place ranked penalty kill got the job done. With Alexander Khokhlachev in the box for goaltender interference, the P-Bruins stopped the Admirals from getting any shots on net including a chance in the final seconds of the power play when Ryan Spooner blocked a shot in the left faceoff circle. The Admirals had their best opportunities on their second power play with Jared Knight off for interference. After a player's shot rang the post, another Admirals player had a chance to bury the puck in the crease but Torey Krug threw his body in front and prevented the puck from going in the net. The P-Bruins had a power play chance of their own late in the period with exactly three minutes to go. Krug's slapper from the point beat Igor Bobkov just 13 seconds into the man advantage to put the P-Bruins up 1-0. Assists went to Craig Cunningham and Carter Camper.

Norfolk had the man advantage for 55 seconds to start the second. Providence killed off that power play but 11 seconds later Max Friberg came down the middle and beat Svedberg blocker side. From there the action of the period really picked up with a heavyweight battle between Bobby Robins and Pierre-Luc Letourneau-Leblond right off the next faceoff. Both landed big punches on one another before being pulled apart. Robins had a few extra words when the linesman stepped in that got him an extra two minutes in penalties for unsportsmanlike conduct. There was another tussle 12 minutes later when John Kurtz dropped the gloves with Justin Florek. Florek got in a couple good shots before the two went down. Hard hits and tough play continued through the rest of the period as Letourneau-Leblond and Robins met again and each went off for roughing. The Admirals really picked up their play from the first period by putting a lot of shots on goal and limiting what the P-Bruins could do offensively outshooting the home team 19 to 5 bringing the shot totals to 22 to 16. Both teams were firing on all cylinders in the last two minutes of play in the period with both goalies standing on their heads to keep the score tied at 1-1.

Both teams came out looking for the go ahead goal early in the final period and it was Providence who would get it. After receiving a nice pass from Matt Lindblad, Alexander Fallstrom snuck the puck in the net behind Bobkov. Trent Whitfield had the secondary assist. Fallstrom lit the lamp again moments later when he backhanded the rebound from a Krug shot to make it 3-1. Lindblad had the secondary assist. Providence kept playing like they were down and soon took the lead in shots as well. Krug extended the lead to three with his second goal of the game with another hard shot from the blue line with only 2:28 remaining in the game. The point for Krug was his seventh of the weekend and eleventh in nine games. Assists on Krug's second goal also went to Cunningham and Camper. The clock ticked down to zero and the Providence Bruins got the win.

The win would be Svedberg's 36th of the season. He is only one win away from tying a Providence Bruins franchise record of 37 wins in a season set by John Grahame. The rookie goalie, who is second in wins in the league, has a record of 23-3-1 since January 2nd.
