Binghamton Senators News Release
GLENS FALLS, N.Y. - The Binghamton Senators travelled to Glens Falls to take on the Adirondack Phantoms for the eighth and final time of the 2012-13 regular season this afternoon. The B-Sens entered the game coming off of back-to-back wins against the Albany Devils, but failed to secure the weekend sweep as the Phantoms rebounded from 1-0 deficit to earn a 2-1 shootout win.
The first two periods of play proved to be a battle of goaltenders as Marc Cheverie for the B-Sens and Brian Boucher for the Phantoms turned aside 15 and 23 shots respectively.
Pat Cannone finally broke through for the B-Sens, putting his team on the board 1-0 at 2:39 of the third period. Hugh Jessiman drew the lone assist on the goal, Cannone's ninth of the season.
Garrett Roe spoiled Cheverie's shutout bid, scoring with just 0.3 seconds remaining in regulation to force overtime.
The game progressed to a shootout, which would go a total of 15 rounds to determine a winner. Stephane Da Costa, Dustin Gazley, Cannone, Jack Downing, Shane Prince and Chris Wideman all scored shootout goals for the B-Sens. Roe, Marcel Noebels, Kyle Flanagan, Rob Bordson, Tye McGinn, Brandon Alderson and Mark Alt all scored in the shootout for the Phantoms, with Alt's 15th round tally securing the extra point for Adirondack.
Cheverie stopped 27 of 28 shots through regulation and overtime, before turning aside eight of 15 Phantoms in the shootout. Boucher stopped 34 of 35 shots through regulation and overtime, before turning aside nine of 15 B-Sens in the shootout.
Despite the loss, the B-Sens earned a point to effectively secure home-ice for the opening round of the 2013 Calder Cup playoffs.
The B-Sens return to action on Friday, April 19 as they host the Manchester Monarchs. Game time is 7:05 p.m. Tickets to the game are $19 for side and $18 for end seats. Fans can purchase tickets through the B-Sens executive office by calling (607) 722-SENS (7367), the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena box office, and all Ticketmaster outlets.
