
Bruins ready for big road games

The Providence Bruins play two road games this weekend, beginning with a key Friday night matchup against the Lowell Lock Monsters at 7:00 p.m. at Tsongas Arena (WDDZ AM-550; www.providencebruins.com). The Black and Gold also visits the Manchester Monarchs on Sunday afternoon at 4:05 p.m. The Bruins, who are 7-3-1-0 in their last 10 games, have a record of 4-0-0-2 against Lowell this season. Head coach Scott Gordon's team has taken at least one point in 26 consecutive games against the Lock Monsters (19-0-3-4), and have not lost to the team in regulation since a 6-1 loss at Lowell on April 7, 2002. The Bruins are tied for fourth place with the Worcester IceCats in the tightly-contested Atlantic Division with their 30-21-3-6 record (69 points), one point behind Lowell (32-18-1-5).
The Bruins posted a record of 8-1-3-0 during the month of February, taking 19 of a possible 24 points. Special teams keyed the successful month, as Providence continued to remain near the top of the league on the power play (20.5%, 2nd in the AHL). The Black and Gold leads the league in home ice power play efficiency, at 25.7%. The Bruins' penalty killers were outstanding during the month of February, killing off 55 of the 60 shorthanded situations they faced (91.7%).

LOWELL: C Eric Staal is tied for eighth in AHL scoring with 18-41-59 totals...RW Chuck Kobasew ranks 10th in the AHL with 29-29-58 totals and leads the league with 9 game-winning goals...Kobasew and LW Colin Forbes are tied for the league lead with +31 ratings, while Staal is next at +30...G Cam Ward leads the AHL with a .938 save percentage and ranks third with a 1.95 GAA.
The Bruins return home to host the Portland Pirates on Friday, March 11 at 7:05 p.m. and the Albany River Rats on Sunday, March 13 at 4:05 p.m.
