Chilliwack Bruins News Release

Pardubice, Czech Republic: In a dramatic ending to a fantastic tourney, Team Canada gets the Golden Goal at 3:36 of sudden victory overtime by Matthew Halischuk to defeat Team Sweden 3-2 and capture Gold for the fourth consecutive year.

Canada jumped out to a quick 2-0 first period lead on goals by Brad Marchand and Claude Giroux. After a scoreless second period, Sweden turned up the heat. An early 3rd period marker by Jonas Carlsson on the power play set up a dramatic finish. With the Swedish net empty and an icing call bringing the faceoff back into Canadian territory, Sweden's Tomas Larsson converted a rebound past goaltender Steve Mason of Canada to tie up the game with just 38 seconds left.

In overtime, Halischuk converted a Shawn Mattias chance and jammed it past Swedish goalie Jhonas Enroth for the game winner.

Chilliwack Bruins Oscar Moller collects a silver medal for Sweden, Sweden's first medal in seven years. Moller was a factor again today as he was on the ice for both of Sweden's goals. Moller finishes the tournament with three goals and two assists for five points in six games against the world's best junior hockey players. Moller at only eighteen years of age is one of ten players on the Swedish World Junior team who are eligible for selection at the 2009 Junior Hockey Championships, to be held next year in Ottawa, Ontario.

The Bruins take on the Prince George Cougars this evening at 7 p.m. at the Prospera Centre.
