Brown's Brace Lifts Rapids over Houston 3-0

Deshorn Brown scored two first-half goals to lead the Colorado Rapids to a 3-0 victory over the Houston Dynamo on Sunday evening at Dick's Sporting Goods Park.

The Dynamo have completed a stretch of three straight road games and return to BBVA Compass Stadium to host Sporting Kansas City on Friday.

The Dynamo (5-8-2; 17 points) are in fourth place in the Eastern Conference.

Brown delivered a 1-0 lead for the Rapids in the fifth minute. Marvell Wynne delivered a pinpoint service from near the right corner and Brown rose eight yards from the back post to head the opening goal into the back of the net.

Colorado nearly doubled its lead 13 minutes later. Dillon Powers broke free at the top of the box and squared the ball to Kamani Hill near the penalty spot. Hill's low shot was bound for the net, but Corey Ashe raced across the front of goal and cleared the shot off the line at the last moment.

The Rapids made it 2-0 in the 35th minute. Powers created space in the middle of the field and played the ball to Brown on the right side of the penalty area. The Jamaican forward drove a low shot from a difficult angle inside the far post for his fourth goal of the season.

Colorado capped the scoring six minutes after halftime. Powers drove a corner kick to the front side of the box and Hill used a deft flick with the outside of his right foot to the far side of the net from 15 yards for a 3-0 lead.

Will Bruin nearly pulled a goal back for the Dynamo in the 72nd minute. Bruin ran onto a bouncing ball at the edge of he penalty area and cracked a half-volley from 20 yards that crashed off the crossbar near the corner of the goal.

The Dynamo host Sporting Kansas City at 7:30 p.m. CT on Friday at BBVA Compass Stadium in a rematch of the 2013 Eastern Conference Championship.

Dynamo Milestones:

It was Corey Ashe's 150th career MLS regular season start to become the third Dynamo player to reach 150, along with Brad Davis and Bobby Boswell.

It was Jermaine Taylor's 75th career MLS regular season start.

Taylor (6,540 career regular season minutes) passed Dwayne De Rosario for 15th on the club minutes list.
