WILLIAMSPORT - Kelson Brown became the first member of the State College Spikes to collect three hits in one game this season, but the Williamsport Crosscutters swept the opening series of 2010 with a 4-2 win at Historic Bowman Field.

Playing from behind for the third straight game, the Spikes (0-3) scored two runs in the seventh inning to close a 3-0 deficit. After Andy Vasquez dropped down a bunt single to lead off the frame, Brown stepped up and dropped in his second hit of the evening. Matt Skirving then followed with an RBI single, and Gerlis Rodriguez drove in a run on a fielder's choice. However, State College could not take advantage of leadoff hits in each of the final two innings.

Brown was not the only offensive contributor, as Gift Ngoepe notched a pair of hits along with a stolen base. Justin Bencsko also picked up his second extra-base hit of the year with a first-inning double.

Williamsport (3-0) jumped out in front in the second when catcher Jim Klocke knocked in Jeff Cusick with an RBI single. The Crosscutters then scored a pair of runs in the fifth without the benefit of a hit before Miguel Alvarez plated the team's final run in the eighth with an RBI double.

State College starter Brooks Pounders (0-1), making his first start in the New-York Penn League at just 19 years of age, allowed only one unearned run on three hits over four innings of work. Pounders also struck out his first batter with the Spikes, but took the loss.

Kyle Pettis (1-0) started and earned the win for Williamsport with five scoreless innings. The right-hander allowed four hits, but also struck out four batters. Chase Johnson (1) earned the save after a one-hit ninth inning.

Monday, the Spikes come back home to Medlar Field at Lubrano Park to face the Batavia Muckdogs, affiliates of the St. Louis Cardinals, with a 7:05 p.m. start time. State College will send right-hander Kevin Decker to the mound for his first professional start. Decker went a perfect 8-0 with a team-leading 3.78 ERA this past spring at the College of Charleston, and was selected by the Pirates in the 39th round of the 2010 MLB Draft.

Batavia right-hander Nick McCully, also making his first start of 2010, will oppose Decker.

Fans can break out their Washingtons for Dollar Dog Monday at the park, presented by the Spikes' flagship radio station, 95.3 FM 3WZ. Hot dogs will be available for just $1 around the park. It's also Summer School Night, as kids in grades 1-8 will get a Spikes Summer Learning Packet before the game, with activities to complete during the game. Once the packet is complete, it can be turned in for a free Bullpen Box ticket voucher to another Spikes game.

Fans can catch all of the action on the Spikes Radio Network and flagship station 95.3 FM 3WZ starting at 6:35 p.m. with the Spikes GameDay Show live from Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.

The Spikes' radio broadcast can also be heard worldwide through the "Listen Live" link on StateCollegeSpikes.com, provided by 95.3 FM 3WZ.
