Hudson Valley Renegades News Release
The Hudson Valley Renegades survive an Aberdeen IronBirds ninth inning rally to defeat the IronBirds, 6-5, Saturday night in front of 6,595 fans at Ripken Field.
Renegades pitching staff had kept the IronBirds offense caged up until the bottom of the ninth allowing just one-run on three hits. Right-hander Hunter Hill came into the game in the bottom of the ninth with a runner on and one out. After back-to-back walks and singles off the bats of Auburn Donaldson and Autsin Goolsby the IronBirds had posted four runs on Hill. Hill bounced back and recorded the final out of the game striking out Tyler Kolodny with the base loaded to secure the Renegades first win of the season.
Renegades starter Julius Dettrich picked up the win hurling 5.1 innings of three-hit, one-run baseball. Reliever Omar Bencomo kept the IronBirds offense grounded sitting down the first eight batters he faced and striking out five in three innings of work.
The Renegades offense struck first plating the first run of the game in the top of the second. With the bases loaded, Robby Price gave the Renegades a one-run lead scoring David Wendt from third base with a sacrifice fly to center field.
The lead was short lived thanks to a RBI double off the bat of Aberdeen's LJ Hoes that knotted the game up at ones.
The Renegades offense supplied the pitching staff with some breathing room plating five runs from the sixth to the eighth inning. With the bases loaded in the top half of the eighth Burt Reynolds hit a two-RBI double plating two runs and bringing the score to 6-1.
Entering the bottom of the ninth the Renegades looked to have their first win of the season locked up but the IronBirds had a different plan. Aberdeen took advanced of back-to-back walks to greet reliever Hill followed by back-to-back singles and an error by shortstop Derek Dietrich. The IronBirds would only be able to bring the game within one run as the Renegades held their ground and avoiding a ninth inning IronBirds comeback.
Tomorrow the Renegade play the rubber match of the three-game series against the Aberdeen IronBirds, with the first pitch scheduled for 5:35 p.m. The Renegades will give the ball to right-hander Wilmer Almonte and the IronBirds will counter with righty Justin Moore.
The 2010 season at Dutchess Stadium begins this Monday (June 21) as we "Celebrate the World Premier" of the 2010 Renegades. Tickets are still available so contact the Renegades box office at 845.838.0094 to get your tickets now or click here to order tickets online.
