Brooklyn Tops Hudson Valley, 8-7, in Seesaw Affair on Seinfeld Night

BROOKLYN, N.Y. - Thanks to timely hitting and a resilient approach, the Brooklyn Cyclones defeated the Hudson Valley Renegades, 8-7, on Saturday night at Maimonides Park. For one night only, the Cyclones suited up as the Brooklyn "Pretty Boys", facing the "Wappingers Falls Bubble Boys", as part of Brooklyn's annual Seinfeld night celebrations. 8,112 fans packed Maimonides Park, the most since August of 2015.

SS Jett Williams clubbed his second Maimonides Park home run, and eighth overall of the season. 1B William Lugo enjoyed a productive day as well, notching a two-run double and a two-run triple.

The Renegades scored first, plating two in the second on a two-run blast from LF Christopher Familia. The long ball was Familia's ninth of the season.

Hudson Valley tacked on another in the third, when 2B Jared Serna doubled home CF Spencer Jones to push the lead to 3-0.

Brooklyn's response came in the fourth in a big way. The first domino to fall was when 3B Jacob Reimer was walked with the bases loaded to score Brooklyn's first run of the night. Then, Lugo doubled home two more to tie the game.

2B D'Andre Smith delivered the final blow of the frame - a go-ahead two run double to put the 'Clones in front. The five run frame marked the second time this series that Brooklyn put up a five spot in a single inning.

Hudson Valley pulled within one moments later, when RF Anthony Hall launched his first Renegades home run of the season.

Brooklyn got that run right back though, when Williams skied a long ball over the video board in left-center field in the fifth.

The ball continued to fly out of the park in the sixth - 1B Rafael Flores pulled the Renegades even, 6-6, on a two-run jack to left field.

Hudson Valley went on to take the lead in the seventh on an RBI single from SS Ben Cowles.

In the bottom half, Lugo came up big yet again. The Brooklyn first baseman sent a triple into deep center field, scoring two runs and giving the 'Clones the lead. The Renegades could not muster a response over the final two frames.

The Cyclones will take aim at a series split Sunday afternoon at Maimonides Park. RHP Robert Colina (3-3, 3.29) takes the ball for Brooklyn. He'll oppose RHP Brendan Beck (0-1, 1.71). First pitch is set for 2:00 p.m. from Coney Island.
