After Hudson Valley starter Zach Messinger retired the first nine batters in a row to start the game, the first three batters reached safely in the fourth. A bases loaded walk to Jacob Reimer brought home the first run before back-to-back two-RBI doubles from William Lugo and D'Andre Smith pushed Brooklyn ahead 5-3.

Brooklyn responded with a Jett Williams solo home run in the fifth to pad the Cyclones lead to 6-4. After the Williams home run, Messinger walked Ramirez to bring an end to his outing. Anderson Munoz made his 2023 Renegades debut and tossed two scoreless frames out of the bullpen.

The Renegades tied the game at six on a Rafael Flores two-run home run to left field in the sixth. After the home run, Benito Garcia entered out of the bullpen and finished off the inning.

After Serna was hit by a pitch from Garcia (1-1) to begin the seventh and the Renegades infielder stole second base to place the go-ahead run in scoring position. Ben Cowles laced a go-ahead RBI single to score Serna and hand the Renegades an 8-7 lead. Cowles finished the night 1-for-3 with an RBI, walk, and a run to extend his on-base streak to 32 games.

Harrison Cohen entered out of the bullpen in the seventh and recorded the first two outs before Stanley Consuegra singled and Reimer worked a walk. Lugo then scorched a two-RBI triple into the gap in right-center field to push Brooklyn back ahead 8-7.

Garica retired the Renegades in order in the ninth, and allowed just one run in the final 3.1 innings to hand the Renegades their second-straight loss.
