Broncos Stop WhiteWings' Franchise Record Winning Streak at Seven

HARLINGEN - The Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings' franchise record seven-game winning streak came to an end after a 5-4 loss to the Laredo Broncos on Thursday at Harlingen Field.

The WhiteWings' (45-43) magic number to clinch a playoff spot remains two. Any combination of WhiteWings wins and San Angelo Colts losses that adds up that adds up to two over the course of the rest of the season will result in the WhiteWings clinching their first playoff spot since 2007.

The WhiteWings struck against Jeff Jamnik (5-4) right away. With two outs in the top of the first, Yeurys Tejeda singled and Leivi Ventura hit his single-season record-tying 23rd home run to make it 2-0.

The Broncos (45-43) responded against Andres Rosales in the top of the second. With one out, Jonathan Cisneros drew a 10-pitch walk and advanced to second on a passed ball. One out later, Carlos Arroyo hit an RBI-single to make it 2-1.

Tejeda led off the bottom of the fourth with a single and stole second. Two outs later, Welington Dotel hit an RBI-triple to make it 3-1.

Nick Mahin hit his 10th home run in the top of the fifth to bring the Broncos within 3-2.

Tejeda led off the bottom of the sixth with a double, moved to third on a passed ball and scored on a sacrifice fly by Ventura to make it 4-2.

Cisneros led off the top of the seventh with an infield-single. After a wild pitch, Arroyo hit a one-out RBI-double to knock out Rosales. Mahin reached on an error against Luis Montano (7-5), and one out later, Maiko Loyola hit an RBI infield-single to tie the game at 4-4.

D.J. Dixon led off the top of the eighth with his fifth home run to give the Broncos a 5-4 lead.

Reyes Dorado recorded the final four outs for his seventh save.

The WhiteWings and Broncos play game four of this five-game series on Fan Fly Away Friday, presented by Allegiant Air, Univision, Que Pasa and Jose 101 at 7:05 p.m., when one lucky fan will win two free round trip tickets on Allegiant Air. Gates open at 6:05. It's also Fan Appreciation Night. Fans will receive surprise giveaways as they enter Harlingen Field. Right-hander Johnny Montoya (1-2) is expected to face right-hander Juan Peralta (9-2).
