
Roadrunners Split Double Header, Remain Tied for First

AMARILLO, Texas---The Edinburg Roadrunners held a five run lead heading into the bottom of the fifth inning before the Amarillo Dillas scored six runs en route to a 11-10 victory to split the double header Wednesday night at the Amarillo National Bank Dilla Villa.
With the split of the double header, Edinburg falls back into a first place tie with Amarillo.
The Roadrunners (49-35) got on the board quickly against Jermaine Van Buren in the top of the first. Wilmer Pino started the game by getting hit by a pitch and then stole second and third. One out later, Nelson Teilon hit an RBI single scoring Pino from third. Ambiorix Concepcion then hit a two-run home run making it 3-0 Edinburg.
Amarillo (50-36) answered in the bottom of the first against Tim Haines. Adam De La Garza led off with a walk and then Joaquin Rodriguez followed with a single. Carlos Figueroa hit an RBI single to center allowing De La Garza to score from second. With two outs and the bases loaded, Rob Recuenco walked allowing Rodriguez to score cutting the Roadrunners lead 3-2.
In the top of the third, Concepcion hit an RBI single to center allowing Teilon to score from second. After a stolen base and a wild pitch, Concepcion scored from third on yet another wild pitch extending Edinburg's lead 5-2.
Alberto Cruz started the bottom of the third by getting hit by a pitch. Recuenco followed with an infield single to put runners at first and second. One out later, Jermel Lomack reached on an infield single to load the bases for De La Garza who walked to drive in Cruz from third. Rodriguez then hit an RBI ground out that allowed Recuenco to score from third. With Lomack at third, a wild pitch allowed him to come in and score tying the game at five.
Edinburg responded back in the top of the fourth. Carlos Hereaud led off the inning with a walk and then came into score after Albert Gonzalez hit an RBI double to deep center field. With two outs in the inning, Felix Molina hit an RBI single allowing Gonzalez to score. A fielding error allowed the inning to continue putting Molina at second and Teilon at first. Concepcion followed with an RBI double scoring Molina from second. Daryl Jones then hit a two-run single to left field allowing Teilon and Concepcion to score giving the Roadrunners the 10-5 lead.
Julio Martinez hit a grand slam in the bottom of the fifth off of reliever Carlos Rangel. With runners at first and third and one out, a fielding error allowed Cruz and Recuenco to score giving the Dillas the 11-10 lead.
The Roadrunners got the tying run on bases in the top of the seventh but Ramon Geronimo got the final out of the game picking up his 20th save of the season to give Amarillo the 11-10 victory.
The Roadrunners and Dillas will play the third game of this four-game series Thursday night at the Amarillo National Bank Dilla Villa. Jose Pablo Oyervidez is expected to pitch for Edinburg with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
