Broncos Shutout by Hurricanes on the Road

Swift Current Broncos News Release

LETHBRIDGE, AB - The Swift Current Broncos (7-23-1-2) fell behind early and the Lethbridge Hurricanes (22-10-0-5) poured on the offense in a 6-0 final at the Enmax Centre Saturday night.

Just 1:14 into the game Lethbridge opened the scoring when a bouncing puck was knocked out of midair and through the five hole of Reece Klassen by Justin Hall.

The Broncos had back to back power plays shortly after the goal, and came close to tying the game twice as Ethan Regnier hit the post on the first man advantage before Kasper Puutio was robbed by Bryan Thomson off a centring pass on the second.

The Hurricanes extended their lead to 2-0 as Trevor Thurston took a drop pass off the rush and fired a shot past Klassen 10:22 into the frame. Logan Barlage added a third Hurricanes goal before the period was up to push Lethbridge ahead 3-0 after 20.

The Hurricanes made it 4-0 in the second as Jett Jones deflected a point shot over the shoulder of Klassen 7:31 into the second. The Broncos ran into penalty trouble in the second, but would finish the game killing off all four Hurricanes power plays.

Rookie defenceman Chase Lacombe tried to give his team some life by dropping the gloves with 20-year-old Koletrain Wilson in the second. Despite giving up four inches and nearly 30 pounds on Wilson, Lacombe willingly dropped the gloves to try and get his team going.

It was the first of three fights over the course of the game as Kaleb Bulych fought Dino Kambeitz after running over 16-year-old Zack Stringer in the third and Matthew Benson went toe to toe with Barlage late in the game.

The Hurricanes scored twice in the third to push the final score to 6-0. The Broncos will look for a rebound effort Monday night when they welcome the same Hurricanes to the Innovation Credit Union iPlex.
