Beckman Extends Streak with Hat Trick in 5-3 Win over Americans

Spokane, Wash. - Chiefs forward Adam Beckman recorded his second hat trick of the season on Saturday night, extending his goal streak to eight games as the Chiefs downed the rival Tri-City Americans, 5-3. Rookie goaltender Mason Beaupit recorded 25 saves and picked up the win in his first career Western Hockey League start.

The Chiefs offense came out swinging early as Bobby Russell joined the rush and swung behind the net before dropping a pass to Beckman in the left circle to make it 1-0 at 4:32. Beckman and 2020 NHL Draft prospect Jack Finley hooked up at 11:47 for the Minnesota Wild prospect's second goal to push the lead to 2-0.

Luke Toporowski recorded his second score in as many nights just nine seconds later -- two seconds short of franchise record for fastest two goals -- to give Spokane the 3-0 lead going into the first intermission.

Tri-City forward Nick Bowman delivered the Americans' first score of the game on a power play just under five minutes into the second frame, but Leif Mattson answered for the Chiefs less than a minute later off a beautiful backhand feed from Toporowski to stretch the lead back to three.

An empty-netter by Beckman secured the hat trick with an empty netter, pushing his stat line during his current goal streak to 19 points with 14 goals and five assists. The 18-year-old winger leads the WHL in points (57) and is tied for the league lead in goals with 27.

Beaupit stopped 25-of-28 for the Chiefs after joining the team on Saturday morning, providing depth after an injury to goalie Campbell Arnold in Friday night's contest at Seattle. The 2018 third-round bantam pick appeared in two games during the 2019 WHL Preseason. Tri-City split goaltending duties between Beck Warm (7-of-10 in 11:56 in the start) and Talyn Boyko (25-of-26 in 47:07 in relief).

Spokane was 1-of-3 on the power play and 4-for-5 on the penalty kill.

These two teams will meet again on New Year's Eve in Kennewick.

The Chiefs visit the Tri-City Americans for their annual New Year's Eve date in Kennewick on Tuesday, December 31 before returning home to take on the Portland Winterhawks on Friday, January 3.
