Saskatoon Blades News Release

Saskatoon, SK - The Saskatoon Blades beat the Prince Albert Raiders for the fourth straight time this season by a final score of 6-3 on Saturday night.

Matthew Sanders scored his first Western Hockey League career goal, Chase Wouters extended his point streak to five games while Tristen Robins extended his to seven games. Colton Dach scored for the second straight game and he now has points in five of his last six games. Nolan Maier once again had an excellent outing against the Raiders, stopping 35 of 38 shots faced.

The Blades started off strong as Randen Schmidt worked the puck around the boards and found Sanders at the point whose shot got through to give the Blades the early lead.

Just over a minute later the Raiders would take a 5-minute major hitting Nolan Kneen from behind. A scrum ensued which left the Blades with a 3 minute power play. On the man advantage Kneen received a pass and found Kyle Crnkovic who then passed it back-door to Wouters to give the Blades a two goal lead.

Saskatoon wasn't done there as Eric Florchuk gained the zone and found Robins who passed up top to Scott Walford who scored through the legs of the Raiders goaltender to give the Blades a 3-0 lead to end the the first period.

The Blades quickly added to their lead to start the second period as Walford walked his man at the blue line and went bar down for his second of the game.

Four minutes later and Walford dumped it in where Crnkovic picked it up to find Dach in front who backhanded it in to make the lead 5-0 Saskatoon. The Raiders would take a timeout and respond with the games' next three goals, including two with under 90 seconds to play as the Blades lead was cut to 5-3 heading into the final frame.

Saskatoon were able to regroup and come out with a strong defensive effort in the third period. The Blades were able to keep the Raiders off the scoreboard with Maier making some timely saves to keep the score at 5-3. Saskatoon would add an empty netter as Robins' shot was poked home by Crnkovic in the final moments of the game as the Blades took the win 6-3. The Blades are now off until January 1st when they will host the Winnipeg ICE at SaskTel Centre for New Years Day celebrations. Puck drop is at 2pm and will be followed by a Mosaic Family Skate Day, so be sure to bring your skates to the game and hit the ice with the Blades post-game.
