Broncos Announce $561,500 Profit at Annual General Meeting

SWIFT CURRENT, SK - The Swift Current Broncos hosted their Annual General Meeting at the Best Western Inn on Tuesday evening. Trent McCleary, Chairman of the Swift Current Broncos Board of Directors announced a profit of $561,500 for the 2017-18 season.

"It was a tremendous season last year," said Board of Directors Chairman Trent McCleary. "This year, we did a great job in all areas. Some of the highlights from last season were truly memorable and something that can never be taken away from this franchise. Our three directors have all moved on since last season - Manny Viveiros, Jamie Porter and Dianne Sletten but we would like to thank them for their effort, their passion and for their contributions on moving the Broncos franchise forward. We would like to welcome our three new directors - Dean Brockman, Nathan MacDonald, and Gary Aubin"

"The Swift Current Broncos Board of Directors would also like to thank the fans and staff, without them, we're not here today," McCleary further noted. "We also like to thank again our partners and sponsors for their support as we had another exciting year of Bronco hockey. Thanks again for your support."

Highlights of the AGM included:

Business Operations

Net profit for the 2017/18 financial year was $561,500, the largest in franchise history.

As a result of the huge support from the community, the average attendance increased to 2,550 per game; an increase of 544 per game from last season.

The Broncos had 11 official sellouts in the regular season and sold out all 13 playoff home games through the exciting four rounds of the 2018 WHL Playoffs.

Total hours of community engagement and participation from Broncos staff and players were in excess of 550 hours for the 2017/18 season.

Hockey Operations

The Broncos won the Ed Chynoweth Cup as WHL Champions for the third time in franchise history.

Regular season record was 48-17-5-2 in 2017/18.

The team finished second in the East Division and second overall in the Eastern Conference standings with 103 points.

The 103 points earned was the second most ever earned by the team in its 51-year history.

The Swift Current Broncos took center stage in the national media for a number of reasons last year, including:

Being listed in the CHL's Top 10 rankings for 22 weeks

The top line of Gawdin, Steenbergen and Heponiemi were all in the top 10 of scoring in the CHL for the majority of the season

Three players participated in the World Juniors for three different countries: Tyler Steenbergen (Canada), Aleksi Heponiemi (Finland), and Artyom Minulin (Russia)

Tyler Steenbergen scored the World Junior Championship gold medal winning goal for Canada

Aleksi Heponiemi had a 28-game point streak, the longest in the WHL since 1996.

With 26 playoff games, the Broncos now hold the record for both the shortest (1989 - 12 wins, 0 losses) and longest (2018 - 16 wins, 10 losses) playoff records.

Aleksi Heponiemi finished first amongst all WHL rookies in scoring with (28 goals, 58 assists) for 86 points.
