Brockton, MA (August 4, 2008) - Brockton welcomed the first-place Quebec Capitales to the City of Champions on Monday to start a four-game series and drew nine-game winner RHP Michel Simard as the opposing starter for game one. Simard cruised through the first six innings, but Brockton rallied in the seventh to cut the lead to 4-3 before falling just shy in the comeback attempt.

Simard retired nine batters in-a-row in a stretch lasting from the first to the fourth inning, and only allowed four hits through the first six innings. Meanwhile, his counterpart, RHP Wayne Lundgren kept Brockton within striking distance, stranding four runners in scoring position through the first five innings and allowing only one run heading to the sixth.

Quebec pushed across three runs in the sixth inning led by C Greg Stevens who finished 2-4 with three RBI to extend its lead to 4-0. The four runs scored by the Capitales equaled the number of earned runs allowed by Lundgren at Campanelli Stadium in all five of his previous starts at home this season.

With a seemingly insurmountable hill to climb against Simard, Brockton's offense sparked to life in the seventh inning. After 3B Eugene Julien loaded the bases with a one-out walk, C Lee Rubin drove in the first two runs of the game for Brockton with a single. Rubin finished with two hits on the night. Then PH Phillip Cuadrado came off the bench, appearing for the first time in five games, to pinch hit with runners at first and third base. Cuadrado hit a ground ball to Quebec 2B Jean-Michel Rochon-Salvas which turned into a fielder's choice but allowed a run to score and cut the Quebec lead to 4-3.

2B Melvin Falu hit a double with one out in the eighth inning, and moved to third base on a ground out, but was stranded as the tying run when DH Dennis Abreu grounded out to end the threat. RHP Jason Schutt came on to get the save in the ninth inning for Quebec.

The teams meet in game two of the series on Tuesday night with Rox RHP Stevie Delabar (3-2, 2.63 ERA) scheduled to face Quebec RHP Luis Valdez (8-1, 1.66 ERA). Tuesday's first pitch is set for 7:05 PM.
