New Jersey Jackals News Release

Little Falls, NJ - On Monday, August 3rd, New Jersey Jackals closer Rusty Tucker was named the Can-Am League Pitcher of the Week. In four appearances this past week, the 28-year-old pitched 4 2/3 innings allowing only a walk while striking out three batters and notching three saves. Currently the lefty closer is 2-2 with a 2.25 ERA and a league-leading 18 saves. In 28 innings pitched, he has struck out 33 batters and held opponents to a batting average of .180.

Tucker also set two team records this past week. In Friday night's 4-2 win against the Ottawa Rapidz, the Gloucester, MA native notched his 30th career save with New Jersey to surpass the previous record of 29. Two days later, Tucker's 18th save of the season, also against Ottawa, broke the previous franchise single-season record of 17. Both records had previously been held by former Jackal Mike Hartung.

Tucker, a University of Maine graduate, was a 21st round selection of the San Diego Padres in 2001. He spent five seasons in their organization from 2001-2005. Tucker has also pitched in the Chicago White Sox, Boston Red Sox and Milwaukee Brewers organizations. Last year, Tucker recorded 14 saves for the Jackals before signing with the Brewers in late July.
