Worcester Tornadoes News Release

WORCESTER - Francisco Caraballo, Scott Grimes, and Chuck Jeroloman all went deep and Junior Guerrero turned in a strong start to propel the Tornadoes to an 8-2 win over the Atlantic City Surf on Monday evening at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field.

Atlantic City starter Brian Rodaway had given up only five home runs all year (in 97.2 innings) prior to the Tornadoes' three-homer onslaught. It could have been four, but left fielder Joe Burke made a leap to bring back an Omar Pena long ball to lead off the second inning. Grimes finished 3-for-5 with three RBIs while Caraballo was 3-for-4. Mike MacMillan reached base all four times via two singles and two walks. In total, eight of the nine Worcester batters finished with a hit. Guerrero was dominant on the mound, pitching six innings while giving up six hits, two runs (both earned) with three walks and five strikeouts good for his sixth win of the season. The combination of Guerrero, Eddie Pena, and Anthony Sullivan held the Surf hitless over the final six innings of the game.

The visitors broke the ice with a two-spot in the top of the second inning. After loading the bases on singles, Brad Thoma made it count with a double to right-center field to plate Eddie Kim and William Plaza for the early 2-0 lead. B.J. Weed prevented any further damage with an incredible running catch before banging into the left-center field wall and hanging onto Clyde Williams' long fly for the third out of the inning.

In the bottom of the frame, Francisco Caraballo crushed his 12th long ball of the season to plate Jeroloman in front of him good for the 2-2 tie.

Worcester took its first lead of the game with two in the third via a double off the bat of Alex Trezza which scored Chris Colabello and Pena to make it 4-2.

Scott Grimes crushed his 13th home run in the fourth inning, scoring MacMillan to make it 6-2 while Jeroloman hit a solo shot in the fifth for the 7-2 advantage. The Tornadoes added another run in the sixth behind Grimes' third hit of the game, a single to score MacMillan for the six-run lead.
