Brockton Rox News Release

(Worcester, Mass. - June 2, 2011) - The Brockton Rox (6-1) trailed the Worcester Tornadoes (3-5) from the first inning until a pinch hit double by Shawn Williams plated two in the seventh, giving the Rox the lead on the way to a convincing 7-3 victory.

The Rox improved to a perfect 5-0 against their Massachusetts rivals behind a solid performance from starter Freddy Flores (1-0) and timely two-out hitting.

Flores pitched into the seventh frame, allowing two runs on six hits while striking out seven. The two runs came on home run by Worcester third basemen Mark Minicozzi (1) after a Chris Colabello single in the bottom of the first.

The base knock by Colabello extended his hitting streak to seven games.

Brockton's offense was quiet early, but was resuscitated when Melvin Falutripled, scoring Jake Rosenbeck in the sixth. Williams followed with a two-out, two-run pinch hit double in the seventh and four more runs came around in the following frame, capped off by another two-out, two-run double, this time courtesy of Jorge Jimenez.

The Tornadoes threatened once more, refusing to go quietly in bottom of the eighth, but failed to score despite loading the bases against Rox reliever Jake Hale with only one out.

The four game set continues tomorrow night at Fitton Field on the campus of Holy Cross. Righthander Robert Bono (1-0, 6.75 ERA) toes the rubber for the Rox and will be opposed by fellow righty Chris Allen (0-1, 33.75 ERA). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. with pregame action starting on AM 1460 WXBR at 6:45 p.m.
