Colonials Come Up Short

Pittsfield Colonials News Release
The Pittsfield Colonials came back from a four-run first inning deficit to pull to within a run, but the Quebec Capitales held on for a 4-3 victory.
Trailing 4-0, the Colonials scored a pair of runs in the fourth inning as with one out, Angel Molina walked. Billy Mottram came to the plate next and hit a two-run homer to left center to slice the Capitales lead in half at 4-2.
Pittsfield took advantage of some rough defense by Quebec in the sixth to cut further into the lead. Both Danny Bomback and Mottram hit balls that were lost in the lights by Capitales centerfielder Goefrey Tomlinson, both going for doubles. Mottram's double brought home Bomback to make it a 4-3 game. That was as close as the Colonials would get, however, as the Capitales would close the door via the relief of Dexter Bobo and T. J. Stanton.
Quebec would get all the runs they would need in the first inning. Already leading 1-0 on a Pete Laforest RBI single, Rene Leveret came to the plate with two on and drove a three-run homerun out to left-center for a 4-0 Capitales lead.
The win went to Karl Gelinas (2-0) who pitched six innings, allowing three runs on eight hits. Stanton tossed a scoreless ninth for his second save. Miguel Flores (0-1) took the loss, despite pitching well after the rough first inning, not allowing a hit the rest of the way. T. J. Wink pitched two hitless innings of relief for the Colonials.
Offensively, Mottram drove in all three Pittsfield runs. Jerod Edmondson and Danny Bomback both had two hits for the Colonials including a double each.
Game two of the series comes up on Friday night with Dan Cevette (0-0, 9.00) on the mound for Pittsfield. Coverage on pittsfieldcolonials.com will begin at 6:45 p.m. with the Pittsfield Colonials pregame show in front of a 7:05 first pitch from Stade Municipal.
