Rox Rally Back with 7 Runs Late to Beat Tornadoes

June 2, 2011 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
Worcester Tornadoes News Release

The Tornadoes got a 2-run homer from Mark Minicozzi in the first inning, but they didn't score again until the ninth. In between, the visiting Brockton Rox plated seven runs, all coming from the sixth through eighth innings in a 7-3 win. In their halves of those same innings, the Tornadoes stranded seven runners on base.

Freddy Flores beat the Tornadoes in his second time facing them, throwing 6.1 innings of two-run ball. Worcester starter Shawn Gilblair worked 6.2 innings in the loss, allowing three runs on six hits.

On the bright side for Worcester, Mark Minicozzi went 3-for-5, falling a triple short of the cycle. Minicozzi has scored at least a run and had multiple hits in each of the last five games. Chris Colabello went 2-for-5 and also has a five-game run scoring streak (while adding a seven game hit streak of his own).

Game two of the series will be Friday night, when Chris Allen will face Robert Bono, who pinch-ran in Thursday's game. It's a rematch of the fourth game of the season, when the Rox won 8-5. In that game, the Tornadoes trailed 6-0 and cut the deficit to two runs before Brockton pulled away for good.
